Nullstone Beta Launch

## Beta Launch

Engineering organizations recognize that moving fast when launching new features, products, or markets is critical. As a result, configuring, managing, and automating infrastructure in-house is a significant but necessary distraction.

Today, we are excited to announce an early launch of Nullstone to accelerate engineering teams.

- **Rapid launch of apps and environments** - Nullstone provides a simple developer experience like Heroku, launched on your cloud accounts. Within 10 minutes, a software engineer can launch a container app, serverless app, or static site on AWS with no cloud expertise. After configuring the app, it takes another few clicks to launch production, demo, or test environments.
- **Easy connectivity to datastores and third-party vendors** - Nullstone connects to your existing source control and CI/CD system seamlessly. A single click is all that's needed to connect and configure an app with a database, including credentials. Send your logs and metrics to a third-party provider with another click.
- **Open, extensible platform** - Nullstone is an extensible platform, allowing software engineers to tweak or tune for specific needs by modifying built-in Terraform modules or creating their own.

## Who Is Nullstone For?

Over the past year, we have talked to 100 engineering organizations and the challenges they face. We identified a few common trends among successful engineering teams. Nullstone accelerates engineering teams that follow these practices:

1. **Are constantly launching and updating infrastructure** - Fast-moving organizations are continually adjusting to meet customer needs.
   - migrating to new technologies like containers, cloud providers, or Kubernetes
   - launching multiple environments such as demo, qa, and customer-specific environments
   - integrating with vendors or partners

2. **Have a distributed engineering ecosystem** - Fast-moving organizations buy solutions that are not part of their core product/service. Utilizing the vast array of SaaS vendors and open-source tools enables these organizations to focus on their core products.

3. **Are hiring high-demand DevOps roles -** Fast-moving organizations hire DevOps roles to accelerate their growth and keep their product teams focused. Even the teams that can attract these high-demand roles want these engineers laser-focused on managing customer growth.

## What's in the release?

Nullstone delivers a Heroku-like experience now that applications are first-class citizens.

### Launch

To create and launch an application on your cloud provider, Nullstone provides a set of easy-to-follow application patterns, including static sites, web apps, APIs, background workers, scheduled jobs, and event-driven jobs. For example, when exposing your app to the public, SSL certificates are automatically created and managed.

### Deploy

To deploy applications in Nullstone takes a single CLI command regardless of the cloud provider, platform, or deployment pattern (containers, serverless, or static sites). This CLI command automatically versions the application for each environment. See [https://docs.nullstone.io/getting-started/launch-an-app.html](https://docs.nullstone.io/getting-started/launch-an-app.html) for more details.

### Datastores

Any meaningful application needs a datastore. In this release, Nullstone launches Postgres, MySQL, Redis, Elastic File System (EFS), and Simple Queue Service (SQS) modules. When connecting Postgres and MySQL to applications, Nullstone automatically generates user credentials and injects them into containers so that you will always be secure. See [https://docs.nullstone.io/getting-started/create-datastore.html](https://docs.nullstone.io/getting-started/create-datastore.html) for more details.

### Domains

A domain is necessary to make an application visible to the public. In this release, Nullstone provides support for custom domains as well as *.nullstone.app subdomains. Nullstone automatically creates and manages DNS records specific to each environment (e.g. dev, staging, prod). Additionally, Nullstone will automatically generate and verify SSL certificates. See [https://docs.nullstone.io/getting-started/add-subdomain.html](https://docs.nullstone.io/getting-started/add-subdomain.html) for more details.

### Capabilities

In today's ecosystem, engineers connect applications to many cloud services and third-party vendors. This release introduces capabilities to connect these services rapidly. Capabilities are an open-ended platform to connect applications with datastores, subdomains, secrets, log/metric providers, task event triggers, container sidecars, and many more possibilities. As an example, the capabilities engine allows Nullstone to forward application logs to Datadog with a single click. See [https://docs.nullstone.io/reference/concepts/capabilities.html](https://docs.nullstone.io/reference/concepts/capabilities.html) for more details.

In this release, Nullstone launches capabilities supporting: (with many more on the way)
- Subdomains: Load Balancer, CDN, API Gateway
- Log/Metric Providers: Datadog
- Serverless Event Triggers: SQS, Schedule (cron)
- Secrets Generators: Rails cookie encryption, Laravel app keys, JWT Key server
- Sidecars: nginx, envoy
